About lint errors

[edit]

Hi there @Bruce1ee, how do you find and fix the lint errors in an article? 98𝚃𝙸𝙶𝙴𝚁𝙸𝚄𝚂 09:51, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Have a look at Wikipedia:Linter, in particular the "How you can help" section. Special:LintErrors lists the current lint errors, and on each page linked there is a "Help" button at the top right, which explains how that category of errors should be fixed. Another list of current lint errors is Firefly's report. Installing the "lintHint" gadget can also be very helpful (see User:PerfektesChaos/js/lintHint for instructions). If you need any further help, you're welcome to ask me here. Otherwise there is a linter discussion page at Wikipedia talk:Linter. —Bruce1ee 10:15, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

[edit]

Greetings, I occasionally come and make edits on en.wiki, I am normally a patroller on tr.wiki, I need your help as I don't know this place. I can't find the info boxes on my profile that link to my TR page and say "this user is a patroller on Turkish Wikipedia" etc. Can you help me? YG01 (talk) 18:33, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

YG01, is {{User wikipedia/New page reviewer}} what you are looking for? – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:47, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes I was looking for this thank you, how can I access the other boxes? YG01 (talk) 21:00, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There are other boxes listed in the documentation for that template. You can also click on the category links at the bottom of {{User wikipedia/New page reviewer}}. Does that help? – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:21, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonesey95: Thanks for responding to this. —Bruce1ee 21:50, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The categories don't show up for me, I guess because I'm not an approved user on en.wiki, thank you for your help. @Jonesey95 YG01 (talk) 08:14, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Those categories should appear for everyone. They are Category:User rights templates and Category:New Page Patrol userbox templates. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:39, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your help, unfortunately it doesn't show up for me. Our wiki is very different. For example, on our wiki the number of changes etc. is shown on the user page, but not on yours. Also, does en.wiki have the right to whitelist? I'm sorry, I've really overwhelmed you, I apologise... @Jonesey95 YG01 (talk) 16:25, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
On en.WP, I have a script or a gadget that adds text to the top of User pages like "1,252 revisions since 2005-03-15 (+6 days), 44 editors, 101 watchers". That may be what you mean. It is not a standard feature that all editors see. As for whitelisting, I don't know what you mean. – Jonesey95 (talk) 20:39, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What I mean is that while the Turkish Wiki has information about such users, the English Wiki has a blank space... What I mean by White List is that users who do not require version control are given to users who are trusted by us, and the burden of version control is lightened. YG01 (talk) 21:16, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You could ask at tr.WP how that information is displayed on User pages. It looks like a customized piece of code that we do not have at en.WP. As for the white list, the en.WP list of user rights is at Wikipedia:User access levels. You could ask at Wikipedia talk:User access levels about the equivalent to the tr.WP white list. We may have the same thing but call it by a different name. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:43, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your information, I apologise for disturbing you :) YG01 (talk) 17:31, 7 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

And others.
The information I've included is not only fresh but also comes from reputable source, including experts who are actively involved in the field of bridge loans. This makes it a reliable and relevant source of information.
Please help.

The link you added (hardmoneylenders.io/blog) is not acceptable because:
  • it is a blog, which are generally not regarded as reliable sources (see WP:BLOG)
  • it is a commercial website offering loans, which is promotional and not permitted on Wikipedia (see WP:LINKSPAM)

If you see a new image on Darshan filmography and they are a new, mobile editor, they have asked someone to make changes on their behalf (while pinging others in that request), and have updated boxoffice revenue on Indian films, you should revert the edit(s) on sight and let User: Abecedare know of the probable WP:duck. Question and help!

[edit]

I noticed that on a few pages, you fixed "lint errors." I couldn't find what they were. Thanks for the help. Also, can you fix page names? Studies of the Enzyme D-Alanyl-D-Alanine Carboxypeptidase from Bacillus stearothermophilus should be Structural Studies of the Enzyme D-Alanyl-D-Alanine Carboxypeptidase from Bacillus stearothermophilus.

Thank you so much for helping me on my wiki journey! JoeK2033 (talk) 12:17, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@JoeK2033: I've moved Studies of the Enzyme D-Alanyl-D-Alanine Carboxypeptidase from Bacillus stearothermophilus to Structural Studies of the Enzyme D-Alanyl-D-Alanine Carboxypeptidase from Bacillus stearothermophilus. The old page is now a redirect pointing to the new page. I've also updated the link to the new page on Janet Frost. —Bruce1ee 13:11, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a bit apprehensive about messing with linking redirects because I don't want to make any mistakes. I've noticed that some of my recently created pages have been reviewed. In contrast, others like Structural Studies of the Enzyme D-Alanyl-D-Alanine Carboxypeptidase from Bacillus stearothermophilus and The Country Club of Farmington, 1892-1995 have not been reviewed yet. Should I be doing something specific so these pages get reviewed? JoeK2033 (talk) 18:25, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You don't need to do anything to get your new pages reviewed. New pages are reviewed by new page patrollers and sooner or later someone will stop by and review your page. —Bruce1ee 22:42, 20 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Inadvertent display of Sounding Rocket article revision

[edit]

I am sorry for you having to revert my sandbox efforts to the external links on the sounding rockets page. I have extensive research on Sounding Rockets and missiles in general. As I feel that Wikipedia is encyclopedic and should provide researchers with as many useful leads as reasonable, I am working upon a revision of the Sounding Rockets page. The current page (August 2024) is very deficient in extent and content. For example it states "The basic elements of a sounding rocket are a solid-fuel rocket motor." All early Sounding Rockets were liquid fueled. Witness the See Also section which lists several such as Aerobee and the V-2. There were also sounding rockets which used artillery for example the Martlet series. There was the air launched Sparoair series. I am most sorry that my sandboxing of external links entries were inadvertently posted. Many are for aged sources which are not easily proofed to avoid problems that the Wikipedia templates are poorly designed to handle.

Thanks for the heads-up I shall try to be more careful in the future.

Request for removal of material

[edit]

Hi, I wonder if you would perhaps consider deleting the thread above re: author Mark Dawson, here [1].

The material that the user seems to have been keen should be installed on the Mark Dawson article has twice been removed from that article, presumably on the basis that it is poorly sourced, potentially defamatory and non-BLP compliant. That being the case, I'm not sure that it is a very good idea for the material to be shown in great detail on a user talk page.

This issue came to my attention after the user in question became the subject of a thread at WP:COIN (here [2]) after twice failing to have an article about himself installed on Wikipedia and due to a long history of WP:SELFCITE. Apart from the non-BLP compliant nature of the material he details in great length in the thread above, there are also, I suspect, plausible concerns that the user may be linked in some way to the story (as all of his previous activity on Wikipedia has been on topics to which he has a personal connection). Failing that, it would seem that either WP:RGW or WP:POINT may be in play.

I have no connection to the subject of the article, I just felt that given the user's history you might consider deleting (or even revdelling?) the thread. Kind regards, Axad12 (talk) 04:21, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Axad12: No problem, I've deleted it. Of course the thread will still be visible in my talk page history. I don't know if it should be permanently deleted. —Bruce1ee 06:44, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No me neither, but the material is also still visible in the edit history for the article in question so I don't suppose it matters one way or the other if it's on the edit history here as well. I mentioned the possibility of it being revdelled at COIN, but I've leave that decision for others to make.
Many thanks, Axad12 (talk) 07:52, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

List of Kasautii Zindagii Kay cast

[edit]

I apologize, I reverted some vandalism by restoring the the article to a prior edit. Your edit was marked as reverted.

List of Kasautii Zindagii Kay cast is meant to be a redirect to to the series article. IP user 203.99.184.247 has been warned multiple times to either add that info to the series article or go through the proper draft process for a new page.

Again, I apologize that your edit was reverted in the process.

User: Janocoaches

[edit]

Hi. I blanked that user's page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Janocoaches) immediately after you proposed it for deletion. For the same reasons as you proposed it for deletion. Was that not the correct thing to do? I hadn't noticed the proposal. Worrying that I've done completely the wrong thing. Sir Nuttingham (talk) 10:39, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sir Nuttingham: It's better to leave the speedy deletion tag on the page, but I think we had an edit conflict, so don't worry about it. Blanking the page is also fine. —Bruce1ee 10:50, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:ReR logo1979.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:ReR logo1979.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Ирука13 11:48, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Lint error cleanup

[edit]

Hi Bruce1ee; I appreciate your cleanup efforts, but this edit to K. T. Jaleel papered over a series of blatant WP:NOR that had recently been added; this kind of cleanup can "launder" bad edits from watchlists. The last edit before your edit even had BLP annotation tags attached to the summary. I only caught it because I had an old tab open before you made the lint fix. OhNoitsJamie Talk 15:45, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ohnoitsjamie: Sorry, I missed that. Normally I first check for vandalism and BLP violations, but I slipped up on this one. —Bruce1ee 15:57, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! In other oversights, I just now realized that I forgot to warn them after reverting the first time. OhNoitsJamie Talk 16:02, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

hello, I want to ask why you deleted the information in this article https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_stadiums_in_Indonesia# ? What do you mean by deleting the information in the article? The information I provided was correct, why was it deleted? If you are not a native of that country, do not change the information in the article. 114.10.8.104 (talk) 21:00, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I reverted your edits is because they broke the page. This is what the page looked like after your edits. You'll see that the table is broken, and the See also section, the References section, and the categories have been moved to before the table, which does not conform to Wikipedia's Manual of style. It helps to preview your changes before saving them (see Help:Show preview). —Bruce1ee 23:36, 20 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh okay, but according to data in Indonesia there are 50 stadiums with a capacity of 20,000 and above (which I wrote), so if I edited it wrong, I ask you to add the information you deleted, OK? 114.10.19.34 (talk) 07:07, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, Indonesia has 111 - 200 stadiums spread throughout Indonesia, but of those 111 that are suitable for use for football matches, only 50 are actually available. In fact, there are stadiums with a capacity lower than 20,000 but in terms of infrastructure they are not suitable. 114.10.19.34 (talk) 07:14, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So I ask for help, please rewrite all the information you have deleted and please try to avoid mistakes. First of all, I'm sorry for almost scolding you. 114.10.19.34 (talk) 07:17, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've reapplied your edits to the table. Please check to see if it is as you want it. —Bruce1ee 09:00, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you bro, and once again sorry for disturbing you, and sorry for my words which may have offended you. Thanks again. 114.10.19.224 (talk) 17:12, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not a problem, happy to help. —Bruce1ee 17:23, 21 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

All Our Wrong Todays

[edit]

I've been mildly obsessed with All Our Wrong Todays since I first read it in 2017, and for a long time, I'd been thinking, "well, if nobody else writes a Wikipedia article about it, I guess I will eventually." I'd made a few notes for it over the years, but finally I vowed that I would make use of my day off work for Christmas Eve 2024 to write the article.

And then I discovered that you'd created and written the article 10 days ago! Thanks - I think as a much more experienced editor than me, you did a much better job than I would have. Trainman (talk) 19:12, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, I enjoyed working on it. I'll be adding a little more to it shortly, just some background information and news of a possible TV adaptation. —Bruce1ee 23:12, 24 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wendy Wood's bio page

[edit]

Please do not edit my bio. I am adding citations to all of the statements I make. Are you are researcher of habit? I can't understand why you would change what my research has shown. If you have problems with my research, please write to the editors of the journal in which it is published. That is the format for contesting research results. 70.108.144.252 (talk) 18:12, 26 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted an edit of yours that had added unsourced content to a biography of a living person. Wikipedia has a strict policy about such edits – see biographies of living persons. Also, please note that editing you own bio implies a conflict of interest, and is strongly discouraged on Wikipedia. —Bruce1ee 22:55, 26 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
